The Dallas County BlueNote Tues. Interview is back!! Get a load of Beryl Court!!!
Ok…We’re …Back with Beryl Court… an up & coming band out of the North Texas area that has so graciously agree’d to be The Dallas County BlueNote’s Tues. Interview.
DCBN: We’ve got Tristan (vocals, guitar) & Taco (Bass) from Beryl Court on the line here to enlighten’ the future & current fans as to what the band’s about & where they came from. Speaking to where they came from… How was Beryl Court formed?
Tristan: Well, Matt (Drums) & I started a band our freshmen year of high school in 2001 with a friend of ours. We had several different names & we were AWEFUL! I walked from that band because I got tire of the other guy, & after a few days Matt got tired of him too. We started playin’ with another friend & went by ‘Silent Pulse’ for awhile. Then we found out that name was already taken by several bands AND some drum company! So we changed it to Beryl Court, which is actually a street adress, in 2005. We played as a three piece until the summer of 2008 (when Buxton joined). We did that for awhile… then in Jan. 2010 the “other” guy walked & then we added Taco. And that’s where we are now.
Taco: I’ve been Alex’s (Buxton) friend since ‘07. We jammed some together before 2010. According to him I was “Good” (from what he seen with his ‘friend’ at the time)… I didn’t know alot… But in ‘09 when I got my Ibanez Sabre for Christmas… I picked it up & forced myself to get much better. It worked. Around March of ‘09 I saw B.C. play at Curtain Club with their old “member”. It was SICK! I thought “Man…it’d be awesome to do that! Espescially with Alex Buxton (lead guitar)!” That was my dream… I geuss… That year went on… I got better…2010 rolls around… I keep practicing to myself, talkin’ to my other friends about makin’ a band. Then Febuary rolls around… I get a call around Jan. 28th …It’s Buxton! This is what I got: “hey man, what’s up?”…I respond as usual thinkin’ he wants to hang out & such. Next thing he says…”You want to be in a band?”… I puase for a bit, I didn’t quite understand what he asked. He asked again with a chuckle because of my response. It took me a second to respond again but I replied with a “FUCK YEAH!” He filled me in on the situation. I had to learn 7 songs for a show in one week. God, what a load on my shoulders!
But I pulled some shit outta my ass & did a spectacular job according to my mates. Since then, they feel like a whole new portal has opened for them.
Ok…Done with that…shoot!
DCBN: You “pulled some shit…outta your ass” & opened a “portal”… ?right … with your “mates”… a “whole new portal”… Mm…K… Sounds kinky. But… I LOVE how descriptive you guys are!
Moving on…
I think you guys are a more serious, adult, barroom version of say…Matchbox20 or Flickerstick. But…What the fuck do I know?! Who are your influences? Who do you guys personally & as a band strive to pay homage to?
Tristan: We have lot’s of influences from Matchbox20 to Third Eye Blind… to all the metal stuff that alex is into. Honestly, we just try & write what we think sounds good.
Taco: We all like how we sound. We just want to have a good, all around, well written sound. It doesn’t matter what genre it is… We love it.
DCBN: Yeah…that’s present and accouned for, but, ok Taco what are YOUR influences?
Taco: My influeces?… Dream Theatre, Symphony X, Lamb Of God, Godsmack, Megadeth, Pantera ($$), S.O.A.D., Tool, & Alexander Buxton to name a few…
BN: Man that F’ing metal! If you guys could play on any stage, for any event…past, present, or future… anywhere in the world… Where would, when would it be?
Taco: Ozzfest with Pantera… Dunno which year…
BN: Fuckin’ A that’s AWESOME!Damn… the las’time I saw Pantera was at Ozzfest ‘94.
Tristan: Easy, a sold out Beryl Court show with thousands upon thousands of fans who all love it & know all the words. When & where are subject to change, but hopefully sooner rather than later.
BN: Good… Answer…! What’s your favorite location, event, & or venue to play at?
Tristan: (Laughs)… Thanks. My favorite place to be is just on any stage. Being on stage brings out a side of me that ussually isn’t there in my every day life.
Taco: I’ve only played at Rockin’ Parrodise, Curtain Club, & Sidetricked Pub n Grub in Arlington. I’d say in that order ‘cuz you guys ROCK! (referring to BluesFolks.com Production’s Open Mic Jam @ Rockin’ Parrodise every Tues.)
BN: You’re a different dude Taco… I love it. Ok, last question… What’s your favorite song & who is it by?
Taco: Um… “Serpent’s Kiss” by Symphony X.
Tristan: “Motorcycle Driveby”… Third Eye Blind.
BN: Excellent Tristan! Third Eye Blind is definitely apparent as an influence for Beryl Court. Man, you & Taco were a great interview! Thanks!
Tristan: No problem, thanks for the interest!
