Football talk with Joey Black
I could barely contain myself… All day long this past Saturday I had to find ways to keep my mind occupied so that I wouldn’t explode with excitement about the night’s upcoming Cowboys playoff game at “The Death Star” vs. The Eagles (formerly known as “The Dreaded & Feared”) I wasn’t worried at all about the outcome of the game. Really. I just couldn’t wait for it to get underway. In fact, I knew I was in the minority all week when I’d speak to other Cowboys fans & hear: “I don’t know if we can beat’em three times…”. Phoo-ey…! As soon as the week 17 drubbing was complete, I knew that Dallas would not only beat Philly, they would blow them out… AGAIN.
In the first meeting the teams had, at Philly in week 9, Dallas won by three points 17-14. It was the type of low scoring, defensive game, on the road agains’t a good team that the Cowboys were NOT supposed to be able to win. The key was Tony Romo’s ability to beat the blitz on third down time after time. So, naturally, in their next meeting (we all know how that turned out) the Eagles declined to blitz quite so much. This gave Tony & the rest of the Cowboys offense time to REALLY take Philly apart. See below.
So Philly blitzed…it didn’t work. They didn’t blitz…it didn’t work. I couldn’t help but think…”What are they supposed to do now?”. Of course they would make ajustments… but really… how many changes can a clearly inferior team make?!
Donovan McNabb tried to show the Cowboys & their fans that he was unphased by the previous week’s result by doing his Micheal Jackson impression & playing air guitar as he strutted onto the field. It was Romo, however, that proved to be the cooler cucumber. Late in the game he could be seen doing a hilarious, motion for motion, immitation of Ed Hocule’s baseball throw first down signal. Havin’ FUN…
What I didn’t know was that it wasn’ the first time this had happened…
In Closing…the Cowboys proved to have the better team, 34-14, & the funnier quarterback. But remember Eagles fans… it wasn’t McNabb’s fualt. It never is right? And somewhere T.O. had to be thinking…”man, it really WAS my fualt!”-Joey Black
